In the June 13 edition of the Chilkat Valley News, Haines Borough Manager Mark Earnest made the statement that he was “losing leave” because he couldn’t get out of his office due to his workload. Isn’t there a very good chance that he is compensated for any and all leave he is entitled to, but is unable to take? That could amount to a tidy sum of money. It would be interesting to see if this is indeed the case and, if so, how much money for unused leave has he been paid for each of the years he has been employed by the Haines Borough.
I don’t begrudge him being compensated for legitimate lost time but I think that should have been a part of Karen Garcia’s story in your June 13 paper.
