The summer adult softball and Haines Little League seasons are starting up.
Haines Little League and T-ball started May 27, but both leagues are in need of more players.
Little league is co-ed and includes youths ages 9-12. It consists of the Yankees, who practice at 4 p.m. Mondays, and Boston, who practice 5 p.m. Mondays. Little League games are played 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays. Practices and games are at the diamond at the state fairgrounds.
Also a co-ed league, T-ball is open to youths ages 5-8. The League consists of two teams that practice together 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays. Games are 6-7 p.m. Wednesdays. They play at the fairgrounds’ diamond.
For registration forms and more information, contact Ashley Sage at 766-3264.
Men and women who want to play adult league softball should show up at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and Fridays at Oslund Park.
Local games last year were mostly pick-up scrimmages between squads, but a dozen or more Haines players also played at a handful of tournaments around the region, said player Daniel Klanott.
This year, Connie Ward and a group of others are planning on reviving the Six-Pack Sam Tournament. The co-ed tournament is for adults and each team must consist of at least ten players.
They are planning to hold the tournament during the weekend of the Southeast Alaska State Fair at the end of July. For information, call Ward at 766-2023.
