We need to move beyond the inertia of “we’ve always done it that way” and do what makes sense: elect all assembly members at large with a single ballot as proposed by assembly member Schnabel. This gives voters more choices than the current system. It is frustrating to have to vote against a better candidate while voting for a lesser one. I see no reason for the current seat system and no reason against the at-large system. I do not see why there would ever be a need for a runoff, as was feared by another assembly member.
