The Haines High School senior class has chosen vocational education teacher Darwin Feakes as commencement speaker at the May 20 graduation ceremony.
Feakes is in his second year at the school. He teaches auto shop, welding, small engine repair and emergency trauma technician (ETT) training. He also serves on the local volunteer ambulance and fire crews.
Senior Caullen Taylor said Feakes supports his students. “He’s a good person. I look up to him as a role model. He’s always there for anything we need. You can always talk to Darwin. He’ll always do his best.”
Feakes said he felt flattered to be chosen. “I’m pretty honored to be asked by the students. I’m excited,” he said. He said his speech would focus on choices and consequences.
The graduation will be 7 p.m. Monday, May 20 at Karl Ward Gym.
