Repeated water main failures along Allen Road have public facilities director Carlos Jimenez urging the Haines Borough to make replacing the main a top priority.
The main experienced another major failure March 17, causing water to bubble out of the ground near the intersection of Comstock and Allen roads. Public works removed a five-foot long section of pipe that showed several holes and major pitting in some areas, Jimenez said.
Four area homes experienced decreased water pressure until the borough replaced the pipe by noon the following day.
Replacement of the 350 feet of main along Allen Road will run about $50,000 to $60,000, not including the repaving costs, Jimenez said.
Another water line failed near the intersection of Tower and FAA roads following the Allen Road break. Four or five homes experienced a drop in water pressure.
