The Southeast Alaska State Fair will host Winter Games starting 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.

Fair executive director Ross Silkman said the event will include free activities and a chili feed potluck.

A cross-country ski and BB gun biathlon starts at 10 a.m., along with ice skating and sledding for kids. A chili cook-off will be held 11 a.m. at Harriett Hall, with the potluck to follow at 11:30 a.m.

Ribbons will be awarded to the best meat and vegetarian chili dishes and the most unique. Use of a crock pot is recommended for those who wish to enter their prized chili recipe.

A hockey tournament is scheduled to start at noon.

The event will happen rain or shine, but activities may be changed depending on weather conditions. Participants are welcome to bring side dishes for the chili potluck, he said.
