About 20 local stores and shops will be offering sales on Friday, Nov. 23 as part of the Haines Chamber of Commerce “Doorbuster” campaign.
Known in the Lower 48 as “Black Friday,” the day following Thanksgiving is considered the start of the holiday shopping season. Some of the sales during the local promotion will continue on Saturday, Nov. 24.
A Chamber mailer to go out later this week will include details, including sale hours.
“This is one of the biggest shopping events of the year in Haines. Whether you’re Christmas shopping or not, it’s important to check out local stores,” said chamber office manager Jamie Knudsen. “They carry a lot of merchandise people don’t know you can get here,” including computers, e-readers and large toys, she said.
“The idea is to promote local businesses. This Thanksgiving and Christmas you’re going to hear a lot about shopping local and ‘Think Haines First,’” Knudsen said.
