Moose and halibut will be served at the annual Jilkaat Kwaan Heritage Center fund-raising dinner and banquet, starting 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at Klukwan’s ANS Hall.
An update on progress toward a heritage center will be given, said Lani Hotch. Work to complete bank stabilization at the heritage center site will start Nov. 12.
Five engineered log jams and four bank roughening structures will go in to slow the velocity of the river there and prevent erosion, Hotch said. Fifty-eight piles were driven last spring at the site.
The structure was designed to create a back eddy that would allow boats to land more easily at the site. It already has created fish habitat for juvenile salmon that can be seen there, Hotch said.
Hotch said organizers are about halfway to the funding they need for the center.
