The Southeast Alaska State Fair and Takshanuk Watershed Council are sponsoring the 2nd annual Raven’s Bowl Disc Golf Tournament this weekend.
The competition costs $100 and includes 18 holes of golf at Glacier Point Saturday and 18 holes Sunday at the fairgrounds, as well as meals, transportation Saturday, and music Saturday night.
In conjunction with the event, a Saturday concert, barbecue and “gladiator jousting tournament” will be held at the fairgrounds’ Harriett Hall. It’s open to the public and will feature live music by Skagway’s Nat King Kong, said fair director Ross Silkman.
The jousting tournament is a game using inflatable cushions and a “bounce-house” type ring. The game was featured at July’s state fair in Haines.
A charge of $5 will cover music and jousting. Food and drinks will be an additional charge, Silkman said.
Sixteen disc golfers, including ones from Canada and Juneau, participated in the tournament last year and Silkman’s hoping to recruit others from Skagway this weekend. The fair will sponsor play by a high school student as well. Brian Blitz, a Juneau college professor, won last year’s tournament and $300 purse.
A dinner and awards ceremony will be held Sunday night at Harriett Hall. Contact the fair at 766-2476.
