The Haines Borough will host a meeting about the potential for wind power in the Chilkat Valley at 10 a.m. Aug. 2 in the assembly chambers.
Reuben Loewen, an engineer who previously worked for the State of Alaska on wind power issues, and Michelle LaBrosse, a resident and businesswoman who studied wind-power potential at a Mud Bay site, are invited.
The meeting will be to discuss whether the Haines Borough should pursue wind energy and, if so, how to pursue it, said Mayor Stephanie Scott.
Scott said she’d like to get wind scientists together with advocates of wind power. Ideally, a defensible, scientific analysis of the valley’s potential for wind energy could be conducted, she said.
“This is an informal meeting. It’s not a committee. It’s just people who are interested. If nobody comes, that will tell me something,” Scott said.
