The suspected theft of heating oil from the health clinic in Klukwan in May turned out to be a misreading due to a faulty gauge.

Building attendant supervisor Bob Grant reported last month that as many as 250 gallons offuel went missing from the tank in mid-May. Grant said recently that fuel company workers who went to replace the missing fuel found the tank full.

Grant said he has since heard from fuel companies that gauges on such tanks often fail and that the only sure way to check tank capacity is with a dip stick. “I feel better about it knowing nobody is out there stealing our oil,” Grant said.
