The Uglys of Haines, a local fraternal organization, will hold a fund-raiser picnic 4 p.m. Saturday at the “Mud Bay Institute,” a waterfront residence near 2 Mile Mud Bay Road.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the local Fourth of July fireworks display and the state fair logging show.
The event will include barbecued pork sandwiches, chips and salad, said group president Chuck Mitman. The Uglys, who raise money to benefit local causes, recently achieved non-profit status and will start selling pull-tabs, he said.
The group hopes in the future to offer a trade school scholarship to a graduating Haines High School senior or an older person, Mitman said. For more information, see the group’s website, http://www.uglysofhaines.org.
