The Haines Borough Police Department’s blotter posted on Facebook last week included a humorous exchange from May 8.

According to the blotter item, a tourist from out of state reported to police that bears were running loose near Chilkoot River bridge.

“Welcome to Haines,” the dispatcher responded.

“Oh, is that normal?” the tourist asked.

“That’s where they live,” the dispatcher said. “Now, if they are threatening anybody or if you don’t feel safe, please feel free to call back. Otherwise, just enjoy the wildlife.”

The Facebook post had generated 11 comments, 12 “likes” and been “shared” about 50 times on the social networking site by the afternoon of May 15.
