A spaghetti dinner Friday night at the Haines School will benefit three classmates’ trip to volunteer for a month at an orphanage in Moshi, Tanzania. It starts 5 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
Seniors Elena Horner, Brook Cinocco and Jackie St. Clair are making the trip after graduation. The dinner’s proceeds will benefit their travel expenses.
Besides helping on the orphanage’s farm, Horner said she expects the trio will lend a hand in the school there, including teaching basic Internet skills, as computers were recently installed there.
Horner said she got the idea for the trip from a presentation at the school about the orphanage by resident Jamie King. “It was pretty inspiring. He had positive things to say. He’d taken away a lot from it and learned a lot.”
Several student efforts have aimed at helping the orphanage, where Dr. Greg Higgins of Haines works as volunteer coordinator.
