Charlie Bower hits the jump at the Olen Nash Memorial Big Air near Three Guardsmen Mountain in British Columbia on Sunday.
The 13 entrants in Sunday’s Olen Nash Memorial Big Air Contest tested their mettle at Three Guardsmen Mountain in British Columbia.
“The snow conditions were not ideal for making a good landing,” said coordinator Luck Dunbar. “It was either going to be really hard or we broke it up, and then it was kind of like chunks, so I think the judges were pretty easy on the landing.”
Logan Simpson edged Darren Shields by a point to claim the title in the advanced division. The rank-order of other top finishers was Anna Jacobson and Jill Michalak in women’s; Charlie Bower, Dawson Evenden and Walker Blair in intermediate; and Kadin Doddridge, Cameron Bauer and Zane Durr in beginner.
“I think the biggest air of the whole thing was Anna Jacobson,” Dunbar said. “She sent it pretty big this year, twice.”
Simpson won a heli-skiing package from Alaska Heliskiing, Bower received a snow-cat skiing package from Southeast Alaska Backcountry Adventures, and Jacobson and Doddridge earned trips to Eaglecrest Ski Area in Juneau.
“Usually, when we have an entry fee, that’s for a lack of donations and prizes, and the money goes back to the contestants,” Dunbar said. “This year, we had so many prizes, we just didn’t even bother with an entry fee, and everybody who participated got something pretty nice.”
