Alaska State Troopers and the Haines Borough Police Department this week investigated a report of child sexual abuse.

“I don’t think it’s a risk to the public,” said state trooper Josh Bentz. “It happened at a residence up the highway.”

He would not provide additional details. “At this point, we’re still so in the early stages of this, that I can’t say much.”

Bentz on Tuesday said he is handling the case.

“It was initially believed that it occurred inside city limits, and then (police) continued the investigation and realized that it happened up the highway,” he said.

Police chief Gary Lowe declined comment.

Bentz said he expects a news release to be issued in the next few days with more information.
