The Bobbi Figdor Early Childhood Education Award was presented to Pete Dohrn and Victoria Moore this week.
Dohrn was honored for helping build a HeadStart playground, and Moore for her work educating her 5-year-old child, Alex, who is autistic and has Type 1 diabetes.
“It was quite an honor,” Moore said. “I didn’t know Bobbi, of course, but I learned about her and I can honestly say she paved the road for someone like me to receive services we do for our son.”
The award is in its sixth year. Bobbi Figdor died of cancer in 2005 and was director of the REACH Infant Learning Program and an advocate for special needs children. The awards were presented by Bobbi’s husband, George.
“Bobbi would have been thrilled to see the impact that each of these past and present winners has had on the education of young children in our community,” he said.
