If your boat is sinking, should you stay with it, or swim away? If you fall out, do you know how to get back into your boat?
Answers to a range of boating safety questions will be provided at “Alaska Water Wise,” an upcoming, free class offered by the state’s boating safety program.
“It’s a lot of great information, even if you think you know a lot, there’s more to learn,” said Jennifer Allen, local contact for the program. “It’s a great class.”
The course is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators. It’s also recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard and satisfies most states’ boating safety education requirements.
The course is appropriate for boaters of all skill levels and boat types and participation in the class may help students qualify for boat insurance discounts.
Course content includes legal requirements, pre-departure preparation, cold-water survival, navigation rules, boating operations, hazards and emergencies.
The free, day-long class will be offered 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. A location will be announced. Phone Allen at 766-2292 to register.
