The Haines Chamber of Commerce greatly appreciates all the folks who helped make the Fourth of July events a spectacular success. We would like to thank the following individuals and organizations who contributed time and/or event prizes: the American Legion for the flag raising and lowering; the American Legion Auxiliary for the delicious breakfast; Paul Swift for organizing the Mt. Ripinsky Run; Lee Heinmiller for organizing the parade; Cynthia Jones for our impromptu MC; Zeke Frank for reading the Declaration of Independence (Great Job, Zeke!); the Men of Note for singing our National Anthem (Fantastic!); the Friends of the Library for their book, bake and hamburger sale; Tomi Scovill for organizing the mud volleyball games; Dick Flegel for coordinating the foot races and money toss; the Haines Woman’s Club for the scrumptious pies; the American Legion for the watermelon feed; the Sheldon Museum for the children’s fun and games; The Hammer Museum for the Nail Pounding Contest; Mark Cozzi for organizing the 3rd Annual Independence Sale; the HVFD for the annual fire hose battle; Renee Martin and the Student Council for overseeing the pie eating contest; Howser’s IGA Supermarket for donating the pies; Kevin Shove for organizing the Mad Raft Race; Jim Shook for the firing of his infamous cannon; Phil Wilde and his crew for a magnificent fireworks display and for all of you who participated in the parade!
