Motorists earlier this month got their first glimpse of a new radar trailer that electronically displayed their speed on a sign.
The trailer is meant to deter speeding through voluntary compliance, not tickets, said police chief Gary Lowe.
“I’ve had a lot of people who have said it’s a really good sign and they want it in their neighborhood,” said Lowe. “It draws your attention to it and people are really slowing down.”
Officer Cassandra McEwen applied for a grant that netted the department more than $12,000 for the equipment. Lowe also credited Eddie Bryant, borough facilities maintenance technician, for helping set up the trailer.
