Record number of teams set for Kluane Chilkat Bike Relay this weekend
A record number of 275 teams – nearly 1,200 riders – is expected to participate in the Kluane Chilkat Bike Relay on Saturday. A record number of solo and two-person teams is also registered, according to organizers.
Conditions on the 245-kilometer route between Haines Junction, Y.T. and Haines are favoring a smooth race and mild weather.
“Everybody says the road is dry,” said local organizer Judy Ewald. “No construction we know of.”
The National Weather Service is forecasting cloudy skies and a high of 66 degrees on Saturday.
Haines Highway will be closed to all vehicles between 8-10 a.m. ADT.
