Updates to the Haines Borough comprehensive plan will be presented during a town hall meeting 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the fairgrounds’ Harriett Hall.
Barbara Sheinberg, a Juneau consultant coordinating the project, will share results from community opinion and youth surveys. Attendees will discuss community goals regarding borough land use; transportation; economic development; public facilities and services; quality of life; parks, recreation, trails and open space; and other features.
Pizza will be served, and guests are encouraged to bring a side dish to share.
According to the borough website at http://www.hainesborough.us, the revised comprehensive plan will be “a community blueprint for the future” to “lay out Haines’ desired future, goals to achieve this future, and describe specific ways the community can use and manage resources, land and investments to achieve this desired future.”
The process includes a scientific survey of adults from 200 randomly-selected households, plus a youth survey of 80 high school students. The plan was last updated in 2004.
Sheinberg has attended work sessions with members of the Haines Borough Planning Commission to develop the comprehensive plan, set for completion in early 2012. The next session is 6 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in the Haines Borough Assembly chambers and will focus on recreation and quality of life.
