Fish and wildlife protection officer Rick Merritt is seeking information on a cow moose head dumped over the guardrail near 1.5 Mile Mud Bay Road recently.
Merritt believes the moose may have been poached, as the animal wasn’t one of three cows taken legally by residents in hunts outside Haines last year. The local moose hunt is limited to bulls.
The moose was found along with deer parts, Merritt said. Rewards are available through the Alaska Wildlife Safeguard. Call toll-free, 1-800-478-3377.
