Four teams from Haines and Klukwan entered Juneau’s Gold Medal Basketball Tournament, but only the Haines Merchants were alive as of press time Wednesday.
The Merchants were set to face Angoon 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the “B” semifinal. The team is 2-0, with wins over the Kake Tlingit Warriors and Hoonah ANB.
Klukwan exited the “B” bracket with losses to Yakutat and the Klawock Totems.
In “C” competition, the Klukwan Chilkats were eliminated following a loss to Hoonah. The Chilkats topped Sitka Shee Atika and fell to Juneau Filco earlier in the tournament.
The Klukwan Masters suffered a two-point loss to Kake Wednesday that ended their tourney run. The Masters posted a 1-2 record, with a win over Metlakatla and a loss to Huna Masters.
