Failure of a hydraulic proportional valve that controls the speed of turbines shut down the Goat Lake hydro power plant in Skagway early Jan. 20, causing a 25-minute power outage in Haines.

Power was restored when the downtown diesel plant was turned on.

Due to shipment of replacement parts, hydro power wasn’t restored until late the evening of Jan. 21. A seven-minute outage that started at 8:53 a.m. Jan. 21 occurred due to complications while switching between diesels at the Haines plant, said AP&T power manager Danny Gonce.
