I had the good fortune to spend several great years of my life in Haines, and I met some of the finest people I’ve ever come across during that time. When I’m able to come back and visit I’m always reminded of two things: It’s just about the most beautiful place on earth, and once you’ve lived there it always feels like coming home. It was with great sadness that I recently learned of the passing of one of my favorite Haines people, Corlene Rose. Heather Lende always does a great job of honoring people with her obituaries, but I really appreciated this one in particular. Corlene truly was about the nicest person I’ve ever met, and I have many fond memories of her as our “Office Mom” during the early years of Chilkat Cruises. Her big heart, quick wit, and quiet competence really did make our office feel like a family. As Benjie Stewart said, “They don’t make them like that anymore.” Rest in peace, Corlene. Your kind and gentle spirit will be long remembered by many.
