The Haines Chamber of Commerce has four candidates for the three available seats on its board of directors.

The candidates for a three-year term are: Rodney Hinson, owner of Alaska Rod’s; Brenda Jones, controller at Southeast Roadbuilders; Ned Rozbicki, owner of Mojave West Insurance Services; and Evangeline Willard-Hoy, owner of Tlingit Ink Designs.

“The election starts on Dec. 1, so I will be putting ballots in the mail on Nov. 30, and then they have to be returned by Dec. 14,” said chamber manager Joan Carlson. “If it’s postmarked Dec. 15, it will not be counted. They can vote for three people.”

Board members may serve a maximum of two terms.

Willard-Hoy is seeking a second term. Of the two other incumbents, bead store operator Jan Hill is in her second term and cannot run again, and bank manager Karl Heinz chose not to run for re-election. Heinz is the current chamber president.

Carlson said the chamber has about 150 members.

“I have each (candidate) write a little profile of why they want to be on the board, and that is enclosed with the ballot, so that each member can read the background of this individual and what they are looking for and what they would like to do,” she said.

Carlson said she would tally the results by the end of the calendar year.

“Sometimes, people are a distance away, and we have members in Canada,” she said. “Even though it’s postmarked the 14th, it may not get here until the 20th or something like that, so I have to wait a little while.”
