The return of a community party for children highlights Halloween festivities around town this weekend.

American Legion and Legion Auxiliary, Haines Emblem Club, UMF and Haines ANB/ANS are joining efforts for the Harvest Party, 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Haines ANB Hall. Organizer Kathryn Coleman said a haunted house, cakewalk, bean bag toss and other games will be offered, as well as prizes and candy.

The party was discontinued last year.

Coleman said she’s hoping groups can keep the event going. She’s accepting donations, including donations of cakes for the cakewalk. For more information, contact her at 314-0006.

Mosquito Lake’s ‘School of Ghoul,’ a night of events for youths, starts 6 p.m. Saturday at the highway school.

Parties also are scheduled at Harbor Bar, Pioneer Bar, and Fort Seward Lodge. The Harbor Bar event includes pumpkin carving, apple bobbing and a costume contest. It begins 9 p.m. Sunday.

The Lodge party starts 10 p.m. Saturday and will include a costume contest. Pumpkin carving starts at 8 p.m. A costume contest and DJ dance at the Pioneer starts 10 p.m. Saturday.
