Since a good friend had a triple-bypass, I’ve been keenly aware of the pressure in my own chest. My blood rises when I think about how to keep our business doors open during the long, hard winter ahead. Then I really start to palpitate when I think of how our borough assembly votes against business. I don’t understand why they bite the hand that feeds them.

Please vote on Oct. 5, and please write in Karen Hess for seat E. When Karen votes it will be a vote for local businesses, their employees, families and kids in our school system. It will mean tax dollars to support the library, snowplowing and all the good things we take for granted.

If we chase away every opportunity, we will all be seasonal businesses. Really, it would be nice to shut down and go south and not try to survive with a quarter of the income and twice the overhead. But we hang in there, always hoping things will turn around. It’s just so hard when our representatives don’t have our back.

I don’t know Greg Goodman’s stance on any issue. He kissed us a bitter goodbye a few years ago, so I don’t get where he’s coming from, literally or figuratively, in this election. Karen, on the other hand, has tirelessly worked for a year-round economy in Haines. Please give her an “E” for effort!
