A video arcade and pool hall have opened on Main Street. Located across from the Sheldon Museum, the game room features two pool tables, an air hockey table, a downhill ski machine, a snowmobile machine and several video games.
All games are under $1, said Loyd King, who opened the arcade July 4.
“We’ve noticed the kids have nothing to do, they have nowhere to go,” said King, of the inspiration to open the business.
With computer games and play stations in many homes, King said socializing is as big an attraction to the arcade as the games.
The arcade is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day, but “if there’s people in there having fun, we’ll leave it open.”
A four-person basketball game and a two-car racing game allow players to compete against each other, King said.
The game hall has a snack machine and soda machine, King said, and they may offer nachos and pizza next year.
Several pinball tables are expected within the month, King said. “Everyone likes pinball machines.”
King said he grew up playing in pool halls and that the feedback about his tables has been good. “They say the tables are really good, with really fast cushions.”
King is looking for ideas for a name for the arcade, he said.
