Alaska State Troopers will investigate a wreck that occurred at 11 Mile Haines Highway Sunday afternoon that totaled a 1987 Ford pickup truck and sent the rig’s driver to a Sitka hospital with serious injuries.
Irene Gordon, 42, of Inuvik, N.W.T., was alone and driving westbound when the truck smashed into rocks on the north side of the road at about 2 p.m., according to borough police.
Gordon’s injuries included possible fractures to her back, collarbone and arm. She was transported to the Haines medical clinic and taken by air taxi to Sitka. The truck was found overturned and Gordon had crawled from the cab when emergency vehicles arrived.
Gordon told paramedics she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
