Alaska Division of Parks would like to thank volunteers who gave time Saturday improving Battery Point and Mount Riley trails during National Trails Day.

Paul Swift, David Swift and Ken Ewald cleared 45 trees along Mount Riley trail.

At Battery Point, eight volunteers rebuilt bridges in two areas and replaced missing steps in a set of stairs. The group included Eric Kocher, Bob Deck, John Etheridge, Tom Morphet, Jennie Moiso, Debra Schnabel, Tim Walsh and Kathy McCardwell.

Expansion of the wide, gravel portion of this trail will continue this year. Call the parks office in Haines at 766-2292 if you’re interested in helping on future trail maintenance projects.
