A $3,500 from the Wythe Dornan and Brian A. Douglas Memorial Fund will bolster the Haines Dolphins swim team this fall.
The money will go towards general team expenses and might be used to hire a second assistant coach, said secretary/treasurer Suzanne Vuillet-Smith, who wrote the grant.
“Two assistants allow (swimmers) more concentrated time with the coach,” said head coach Steve Vick, who’s worked as a volunteer to lead early-morning workouts during June and July.
