Haines voters in Precinct 4, who vote at the Legion hall, will have their ballots counted as part of a sample used for interpretation and analysis of voting trends on election night, Nov. 5.
Mrs. John Schnabel will be reporting results of the voting from the chosen “key precinct” by telephone to a computer center in New Jersey where calls will be received from selected precincts in all fifty states. Political scientists at the American Broadcasting Company Political Unit will prepare projections and reports on the voting patterns as they emerge.
Because of heavy interest in the outcome of the Senate races around the country, special emphasis is being placed on reports of Senate candidates. The results for the races for U.S. Congressman and State Governor will also be reported.
Other precincts will be reporting to ABC from Juneau, Sitka, Wrangell, Petersburg, Ketchikan and Metlakatla. The League of Women Voters and ABC News are working together with volunteers like Erma Schnabel to gather this voting data for nationwide election night broadcasts.
