Bids to resurface sections of the Haines Highway between Mile 23 and the Canadian border were opened Thursday in Juneau, and the apparent low bidder was Burgess Construction Co. of Fairbanks, according to the Department of Highways. 

The engineer’s estimate of the project was $2,771,000. The low bid was $1,724,000. Also bidding was Associated Engineers and Contractors of Seattle, WA, $2,461,000.
