Torrential rains this past weekend turned sections of the Haines Highway into a mud and boulder-strewn mess.
Late Thursday night, more than seven mud and rock slides oozed down on the highway between Mile 19 and the Wells Bridge. The slides also cut off water and communications to Klukwan at Mile 22 ½.
