Rolfing offered at Body IQ
Marnie Rasmussen’s new body work practice Resource in Gravity is operating out of Body IQ.
Rasmussen, a 2012 Haines High graduate, specializes in “Rolfing,” an alternative medicine practice that works to correct the body’s structural misalignment.
“Some of the benefits may include improved posture, enhanced body awareness, ease of movement, increased energy and flexibility, release of outgrown physical and emotional patterns, and reduced tension,” Rasmussen said.
Rasmussen is a certified Rolfer and structural integration practitioner and earned her certificate from the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colorado.
The institute’s namesake and practice come from Ida Rolf, a biochemist who pioneered the method beginning in the 1920s that seeks to provide proper body alignment by looking at imbalances in the body’s network of soft tissues.
“When we endure different injuries and impacts, our bodies compensate,” Rasmussen said. “We’re working with these lingering tensions and strains from these compensations that are left over, but no longer really serving us as they once did.”
Rasmussen’s body work consists of 90-minute sessions at $125 per session with the aim of completing a 10-session series.

Country store and décor on Main Street
Gina King opened a new country home décor shop in December, Gina’s Place, on 16 Main Street across from the Haines Sheldon Museum.
Much of the décor is hand-painted and sewn by King. She also crafts and sells handmade goat’s milk soap. Other inventory includes Christmas cards and décor, bracelets, handmade jewelry and other crafts.
Originally from Arkansas, King recently returned to Haines and has lived in the Chilkat Valley for 12 years.
She also sells on consignment. Brian Staurseth’s Alaska Wild Bear Photography is also available.
“I’m open to new vendors,” King said.
Her current hours are Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. She’ll open Tuesdays through Saturdays beginning in May.
