1 MILLION PAGES: Public library staff held a mini parade from Main Street down Third Avenue and ending at the Haines Highway. Staff celebrated Haines readers who read 1 million pages this spring and summer as part of a community reading challenge. The high school band played Celebration and library volunteers, staff and the mayor marched in the parade carrying banners and dancing along to the music. There was a brief ceremony on the steps of the library where library director Carolyn Goolsby presented the golden book award to Mayor Jan Hill who accepted it for the community.
