Sales tax was meant to cover ambulance

Budget woes are a constant concern. Many years ago, Haines implemented a 0.5 percent sales tax for medical emergency services. At that time, I was a paid employee for the Haines Volunteer Fire Department and was approached by many members of the public as to the need for this tax. One of the key points that I remember was that this tax would be used so Haines would not bill for ambulance calls, since anyone who purchased goods is actually paying for this service with the 0.5 percent sales tax. This tax passed by public vote and is still being collected today. Ambulance billing to me is contrary to the intent of this tax and my word to the public. Thanks.
