Try your hand at weekly drawing sessions

Casual and serious artists alike can brush up on their drawing skills at weekly practice sessions organized by Donna Catotti.

The sessions are held at 5:30 p.m. every Monday in the Haines School art room.

The Haines School’s Community Education program also put on the program last year. It sprung from Catotti holding smaller sessions in her Mud Bay home, which couldn’t accommodate many people, including a posed model.

Recent sessions have focused on gestures and quick poses with the model posed for 20 minutes at the maximum, but will move into long poses that could last hours or be carried through several sessions, Catotti said.

Catotti said she doesn’t mind giving people advice on their sketches or drawings, but the sessions shouldn’t be construed as classes. “I am more than happy to offer advice, especially during the breaks, or critique people. The bottom line is: I want to draw. If it was a class, I wouldn’t be drawing,” she said.

Participants should bring their own supplies. Cost is $2 for the Community Education program and a suggested donation for the model.
