The historic Tlingit village of Kaatx̲'awultú (often referred to as "Kluktoo") was located at what is now 19 Mile Haines Highway. The village was taken out by a landslide in the 1890s. The Chilkat Valley, like the rest of Southeast Alaska, is prime landslide territory because of its steep slopes and rainy weather. Photo courtesy of the Haines Sheldon Museum.
