It's election season. There's a statewide primary on Tuesday, and here in the Chilkat Valley the October ballot is starting to take shape.
As current Mayor Tom Morphet steps down a race is taking shape between at least two former mayors, Doug Olerud and Jan Hill. If no one else files, it would be a repeat of the 2020 mayoral race, when Olerud won the mayor’s seat over then-incumbent Hill.
There are two seats opening on the assembly. Neither of the incumbents in those seats, assembly members Craig Loomis and Kevin Forster, will be running for re-election.
There are four open seats on the planning commission and four open seats on the school board. 
The filing period for any of these local seats is open through August 20.
