As the conversation about childcare in the Chilkat Valley continues, Chilkoot Indian Association tribal administrator Harriet Brouillette weighed-in this week on what the tribe's plans to help alleviate the pressure on families with young children.

Will Steinfeld has more this week on the future of the tribe's distinctive yellow building, Chʼáakʼ, on Main Street and how the Chilkat Valley Preschool building could figure into those plans.

One other note, for you visual artists among us: the Haines Volunteer Fire Department is wants to hear from you. As Lizzy Hahn reported from this week's assembly meeting, the department has an open call seeking a design to put on its newest tanker. The original deadline has been extended. Submissions have to be from residents of the borough, artwork has to be original and not generated by AI, and it should be sent to [email protected].
