The Haines Sheldon Museum's main gallery is reopening this week after its first major overhaul in nearly a decade, with a redesigned layout and a sharper focus on what makes the Chilkat Valley distinct.
The new exhibit is something of a guided experience using objects and panels to trace trade routes, landscape, and Lingít history. Many of the items on display haven't been seen before, including pieces on loan from Excursion Inlet's cannery museum.
Museum staff say the goal is to tell a more cohesive story of the valley, while leaving room to adapt the exhibit over time.
Read more about the exhibit, and what curators hope to accomplish in Will Steinfeld's story this week.
