5 p.m. Last day for borough election candidates to drop out, local ballot finalized after assembly meeting.

5:30 p.m. Annual evaluation of borough clerk, Mike Denker, during the personnel committee and committee of the whole meeting of the Haines Borough Assembly. Denker may choose to have the evaluation be a public discussion, or the body may move into executive session to discuss his performance.

6:30 p.m. Regular meeting of the Haines Borough assembly. Among other things, they’ll be discussing a measure that would amend Haines borough code to change how staff are required to settle lawsuits over conditional use permits. They’ll also consider two potential ballot measures: one that would pass an additional 2% sales tax on alcohol and another one that would put a severance tax in place in the borough.  

Wednesday
8:45 a.m. First day of school in Klukwan

5 p.m. Volunteer Work Party at the Henderson Community Farm on Allen Road.

Thursday
10:30 a.m. Ports and Harbors advisory committee meeting. The committee will be getting a report on who is behind on their moorage or owes docks and harbors money, an assessment on the Port Chilkoot dock deck, and another on the net mending float. They’ll consider the idea of installing tsunami warning sirens on the Lutak Dock and in Letnikof Cove, a discount for vessel owners who provide proof of current vessel liability insurance, and potential repairs at Letnikof Cove among other things.

5:30 p.m. Haines Dolphins swim team kick off.  Join organizers for a Q&A and registration at the Haines school cafeteria, grab a slice of pizza too.


Friday
10 a.m. Lingít language listening hour open to all skill levels and ages. Listen to an hour of recordings of fluent first language speakers in conversation and sharing stories. Tune in for as many sessions as you’d like. Sessions are all conducted over Zoom. Check the Klukwan Library Group Facebook page for more. 


Saturday
8 a.m. SEARHC Wellness Fair at the Haines School gym. Services will include blood tests, health and wellness education, hearing and vision screening. 

11 a.m. Oil Painters of America Paint Out hosted by Donna Catotti at Picture Point. Everyone and all mediums welcome. Bring your own supplies, water and a lunch. Call with questions or for weather plans. 907-314-3019. 

6 p.m. Goddess party at Viking Cove all ages. Adults preferred after 9 p.m. Join the 2026 party and potluck. There will be an open mic, community ocean dip, cacao and fire, and dancing with DJ Radio Carline starting around 9 p.m.

Sunday
1 p.m. Volunteer opportunity at the community Victory Garden at the Mosquito Lake School. Take home fruits and vegetables for your efforts!

5:30 p.m. Community Book Club: Join Chilkat Valley News and The Bookstore staff for a potluck and discussion of Ernestine Hayes’ “The Tao of Raven.”
