Summer reporter is ready to write

Jenny-Marie Stryker

There's a new girl in town who wears glasses and asks questions.

My name is Jenny-Marie ("double-barreled," as my southern mother says) and I'm here to fill in as a reporter at the CVN while Kyle Clayton goes commercial fishing in Bristol Bay.

I came to Alaska after graduating from college to be a part of the Alaska Fellows Program, created by Rep. Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins of Sitka. The intention of AFP is to place recent graduates into civically engaged positions that help build community. I worked for the Municipality of Anchorage and lived with five other fellows for nine months, and fell deeply, rapidly in love with Alaska. This love affair endured a winter in Anchorage and seems to be here to stay, as am I.

Before Alaska, I grew up in California and studied American Studies and Economics at Wellesley College. American Studies is a broad major for students who don't want to pick one: I studied sociology, history, English, and political science. The thread that held my studies together was an emphasis on using multiple lenses to understand something and writing a lot.

I hope to get to know as many people in town as possible, and spend my time hiking and paddling when I'm not writing stories. Please feel free to introduce yourself if you see me around.
