Curves make highway dangerous
The Haines Highway can be a dangerous road because of its curves.
The most important factor when approaching a curve is the sight distance, the time you have to react to anything in the road – a moose, a disabled car, or a fisherman crossing the road around a curve.
A less severe curve has the longest sight distance and therefore the longest time to react.
This is especially important in the winter, with poor visibility, ice and snow. Jack Wenner
