Free sessions on e-commerce
The Consortium for Digital Learning is returning to Haines for another round of free classes to teach locals about e-commerce, digital publishing opportunities and other means of electronic self-promotion.
The classes will be held Wednesday and Thursday and are taught by Bob Whicker and Steve Nelson, who are with the Consortium for Digital Learning. They will be held in the Haines High computer lab.
Wednesday from 7 to 7:30 p.m. will involve a presentation on broadband strategies and digital publishing followed by a hands-on session from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The hands-on workshop will focus on setting up accounts and maintaining a web presence.
Community education director John Hagen said the workshop will aid people and businesses in Haines who have online marketing aims. “There are aspects of the e-commerce workshop that are applicable for all entities that have a web presence and are looking to improve it. This includes groups that look to sell art or goods online, inns and hotels or tours.”
Thursday offers a hands-on workshop from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on making interactive digital publishing books and materials, including family histories, original stories and use of Native language.
“This will give people an orientation to the tools out there that will help them tell the story of themselves, their family members or elders,” Hagen said.
Interested individuals can also make one-on-one consultation appointments for Tuesday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
