KHNS marathon nets $55K
Public radio station KHNS raised about $55,000 and registered more than 500 memberships during its annual marathon fundraiser July 21-28.
“We’re happy with that,” said station development director Leslie Ross. “We still have money coming in. We did fall short of our goal of $70,000, but you have to have a goal.”
The fundraiser was the first in years that the station didn’t use donated premiums to entice larger donations. Keeping track of premiums for contributors who would claim them later became an issue for station staff, Ross said. “It was like running a big retail store and tour business.”
The station appreciates donations of goods and services and will hold an on-air auction of such items planned for late August, Ross said.
The station held a one-day fund drive in November that raised $7,000 for automation equipment.
