Singer-songwriter Miss Tess is bringing her jazz-inspired, retro melodies to Haines on Sunday, March 24 with back-up band The Talkbacks in tow.
New York City-based Miss Tess will take the Chilkat Center stage at 7:30 p.m. The show is presented by the Haines Arts Council.
According to her website, Miss Tess and her supporting band have “arrived at a style simultaneously refreshing and hauntingly familiar...by blending her knack for melodic and rhythmic improvisation and interplay with elements of honky-tonk, western swing and golden-era pop standards.”
Arts council president Tom Heywood said in addition to having an old-rock sound, Miss Tess also sports an aesthetic reminiscent of the 1940s.
“I listened to them online and I thought, ‘My God, we have to get them if we get a chance,’” Heywood said.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $5 for students and $40 for families.
